Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers claims that striker Moussa Dembele can potentially become the next Didier Drogba if he continues with the same level of improvement.

The former Fulham striker came up with two goals in the 3-3 draw with Manchester City in the Champions League. This was a great result for Celtic considering that it has come just weeks after the mauling at the hands of Barcelona at the Camp Nou. The 7-0 drubbing at the hands of Barcelona was a major disappointment for Rodgers and his claims that Celtic would not be pushovers in the ‘group of death.’

The result against City provides a lot of confidence to Celtic, but it was made possible because of the brilliance of Dembele. At just 20 years of age, the striker is proving to be a valuable addition in the Celtic squad. After having worked with several great strikers in his coaching and managerial career, Rodgers says that Dembele reminds him of a certain Didier Drogba at Chelsea. Drogba is regarded as one of the greatest strikers to have played for Chelsea and he certainly holds this reputation when it comes to the Premier League. Rodgers was one of the coaches at Chelsea when Drogba came to Stamford Bridge as a 26-year-old.

“I worked with Didier Drogba at Chelsea and I think Moussa’s of that ilk. Didier came into Chelsea at 26. This boy’s just turned 20. He’s still a baby but he’s tough. What I see in Moussa is that he’s a big-game player. He really comes alive in the big games such as Wednesday’s.He has a belief. He said he wanted to be the world’s best player when he came here and we shall see, but he is making nice strides, isn’t he? He is a boy who can get to the top but there are some things to work upon yet,” said Rodgers.
