Chelsea forward Didier Drogba says that the club are afraid of suffering yet another defeat to Tottenham in the League Cup final.
The two teams met each other in the 2007 League Cup final. Drogba opened the scoring back then and it seemed to be yet another comfortable victory for the blues. However, Tottenham stunned the opposition by producing a comeback victory. The two teams will be coming up against each other for the first time in a final since then. Inevitably, memories have gone back to that night at the new Wembley.
Even though the two teams have changed a lot, a few players like Terry and Drogba continue to be part of this fixture. They have recalled the fateful night in which Chelsea could have added a trophy. In the end, the blues finished as runners-up in three different competition.
Drogba has been out of several Chelsea teams that have been successful in major cup finals. In fact, Drogba was the player responsible for Chelsea lifting the ultimate prize in club football – European Champions League. He is not expected to start on Sunday with star striker Diego Costa almost certain to get the nod. This is despite the fact that Costa has not scored in his last four matches.
“When you lose, you always remember it forever, like the one against Manchester United in Moscow or against Tottenham in 2008.I have experienced the feeling of losing finals before, so I am scared to lose finals and maybe that is why I give everything. This one is important because after two years I come back to the club and once again we are in a final, so I would love to win it. There is no feeling of revenge after seven years – they deserved to win that day,” said Drogba.
